5 of the best car movies of all time

Do you love movies (and miss going to the theatre!) and love fast cars? So do we. There is nothing quite like the thrill of a car chase, the sleek lines of a sophisticated ride, and professional driving skills under unimaginable pressure. Car movies have it all.

We at Gatsby Valet in Toronto have rounded up a list of our top 5 favourite car movies.

How many have you seen?

  1. Back to the future
No matter what era you grew up in, you’ve heard of this movie and you immediately know the car, a DeLorean DMC-12. This car is equally, if not more, famous than the movie’s star characters. The ability to time-travel likely had something to do with it!
  2. The spy who loved me
This Bond film may be vintage (1976), but it is well worth the watch if you haven’t seen it,  if only for the car — a Series I Lotus Esprit. In one scene (spoiler alert), the car transforms into a submarine with stabilizer fins and props, and later, returns to the beach and morphs back into a car. Super cool.

3. Batman begins
The Batmobile is a classic. It’s evolved along with the movie franchise and continues to keep audiences in awe. The car is rugged, sporty, unique, transformative and beyond cool.

4. Gone in 60 seconds
This movie showcases so many cool rides, we don’t know where to begin. The main character is a master car thief who returns to the industry to steal 50 cars in one night to save his brother’s life. Storyline aside, it’s a great excuse to see some cool cars in action.

5. The fast and the furious franchise
We’d be remiss if we didn’t include this one. While it may not be the best collection of cinematic excellence, each movie promises excitement, awesome displays of stunt driving and road racing. Plus, it’s the car movie franchise that keeps on giving with new films coming out seemingly every year.

What are some of your favourite car flicks? Do you prefer classics or modern action movies with cars as the hero?

Whatever your preference, these five are a great place to start for car and movie enthusiasts.
